From Hip Hop DX:
In celebration of jazz musician Bob James’ December 25th birthday, Cut Chemist of Jurassic 5 cooked up a special exclusive episode of A Stable Sound podcast. With tracks like “Beats To The Rhyme” by Run-DMC and “Daytona 500” by Ghostface Killah, the mix spans Hip Hop songs from 1981-2016, and all sample James’ 1974 single, “Nautilus.” Normally powered by Dublab, episodes of A Stable Sound podcast run the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. The end of our residency at Dba256 Bar & Gallery is upon us, our decision wasn’t an easy one and it’s certainly not goodbye forever. Individually our plates are full with great projects and events on the horizon, collectively we will return to dba256 for some very special events in 2017. We are thankful to have served #Pomona, bi-weekly since July, 2008. We’ve met a lot of great people and shared some fantastic memories. We would love to see everyone in the house, OUR HOME, one more time this year on Saturday November 12th. Thanks to everyone who has helped Re:Fresh become the most culturally unique party in Pomona, possibly ever!

– About Re:Fresh [POMONA] –
Established in 2008, Re:Fresh is a great collaboration of DJs, who for over the last decade established themselves through the arts & music community on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The Founding Fathers of events like More Fire Mondays, A Mic and Dimlights and the Lapa Lounge come together for the most sought out party in Pomona, playing the best in Soul, Hip Hop & World Rhythms!
Tropical Dance Party & Dia De Los Muertos Celebration!
According to its members, the name Buyepongo means “to cause a ruckus” – which certainly describes the scene on the dance floors of Los Angeles whenever the band launches into its dizzyingly energetic, instantly infectious rhythms. But it also describes Buyepongo’s riotous mash-up of influences, which absorbs hip-hop, punk, funk, and jazz sounds into a delirious tropical blend of styles from across the Latin American diaspora. Like its name, the band is part hybrid, part invention, something untranslatable that nevertheless perfectly captures its uniquely vibrant spirit.
QUITAPENAS, one word – all caps, four syllables – all claps, gives you a taste of their rhythmic contagion. This tropical Afro-Latin combo was born under the warm California sun in 2011. They borrow aesthetics from the radical 60s, 70s and 80s. Each song echoes a remix of history and invites one to engage in the liberating evenings of Angola, Peru, Colombia, Brazil and beyond. The name means “to remove worries.” Everybody has a “pena” and the mission of QUITAPENAS is simple: to make you dance and leave your worries behind.
