Tropical Dance Party & Dia De Los Muertos Celebration!
According to its members, the name Buyepongo means “to cause a ruckus” – which certainly describes the scene on the dance floors of Los Angeles whenever the band launches into its dizzyingly energetic, instantly infectious rhythms. But it also describes Buyepongo’s riotous mash-up of influences, which absorbs hip-hop, punk, funk, and jazz sounds into a delirious tropical blend of styles from across the Latin American diaspora. Like its name, the band is part hybrid, part invention, something untranslatable that nevertheless perfectly captures its uniquely vibrant spirit.
QUITAPENAS, one word – all caps, four syllables – all claps, gives you a taste of their rhythmic contagion. This tropical Afro-Latin combo was born under the warm California sun in 2011. They borrow aesthetics from the radical 60s, 70s and 80s. Each song echoes a remix of history and invites one to engage in the liberating evenings of Angola, Peru, Colombia, Brazil and beyond. The name means “to remove worries.” Everybody has a “pena” and the mission of QUITAPENAS is simple: to make you dance and leave your worries behind.

Alan Kinum better known as AK1401 wears many hats and is a good friend of Beats of All-Nations, in fact he edited some video of Quita Penas for us in the past. Working close with him, I have seen him take on tons of projects from all walks of life, even those he had no prior experience in. Kinum is the type to challenge himself in simply having the ability of doing something that has already been done by someone else.
He has taken biking to the extreme over recent times, participating in exhibitions, competing in national races and gaining attention for using bikes not built to take the punishment that he gives to them. He builds his own courses on hidden public/private grounds and injures himself often in attempts to land next level tricks along the way. Without a second thought, he is always doing things out of his own comfort zone. It is first nature to Kinum, succeed or fail, it is always well worth the experience.
The video above is a compilation shot in the early early months of 2014. This video spotlights AK1401 mountain biking some of his favorite spots all over the Inland Empire, Southern California.

like love music, and we know you do too! 2013 has yielded some of our favorite music of all time and we have put together a list of albums, EPs, instrumentals, and singles for you to check out. It’s been a year where we heard new music from heavy weights such as Daft Punk to brilliant new artist such as Giraffage and we loved every minute of it!
So if any of your friends say there isn’t any good new music out, do them a favor and send them some of the music you find in our year-end wrap up. So without further ado we proudly present Beats of All-Nations’ Best Albums of 2013. Enjoy!
This past week our friends from Riverside, Quita Penas, dropped the video for their first single “Mas Tropical.” The title, ‘Mas Tropical,’ defines not only Quita Penas as a band, but introduces an entire movement of diverse rhythms borrowed from different areas across the equator. In this video, Director Jordan Harkins captures Quita Penas in a house party situation, playing for supporters whom in real life accept the bands offerings at every show, close to home or otherwise. With undeniably good energy emitted from the group it is no wonder why Quantic, ?uestlove’s OKAYAFRICA and the Wall St. Journal are buzzing about this video!

On February 23, 2013 Riverside natives, Quita Penas were the featured guests at Re:Fresh in Pomona, CA. After the party on this cold night, the band joined fans and friends for a little jam session on the block. Extra special thanks and our best goes to QUITA PENAS for helping us make Pomona, más tropical.
