We’re celebrating 17 years of A Mic and Dimlights with a takeover by Bess Kepp, the host & JB, the DJ! A Mic & Dimlights is the longest running event in Downtown Pomona celebrating free speech with an open mic every Thursday. AMDL is now a monthly and the two Nor-Cal boys, turned IE OGs are mentoring the next gen to keep this community outlet moving forward. JB plays the mids and Bess Kepp takes us out with the infamous Dim Lights (outro).
AMDL Alumni Leeclaybang reunites with the fam. Formerly known as Brother Dvooa, the poet-emcee, dancer, now a producer gone dj, yes he’s covering all elements. He opens the show with a dj set, the crew talks about memories at Dim Lights, the early days, its many venues and what’s to come. Gabe Real, also having worked within the community over the same timespan contributes to the conversation and delivers a closing mix.
The American Astronaut and Multi-Instrumentalist, Captain Supernova, releases his debut album Visions of the Unknown.
This album is the introduction to the Captain’s story as a young boy, Hermenius, who receives the advice and direction that changes his life into the man he was destined to be. The 7-track album is the journey through the young Captain’s mind going from different dreams, imagining space, and seeing “Visions of the Unknown”. This vivid album uses classical, funk, and soul to bring this story to life played out by synthesizers and many live instruments. Sit back listen and enjoy the journey through the Unknown…

One of our favorite vibe-out artist, Mo Kolours, is at again with his latest self titled album. The 18-track offering ranges from hip hop, to dub, to percussion heavy rhythms, all produced and presented in such a way that is one of a kind and seemingly effortless. In other words, this man is on some other! Oh yeah, and he’s giving this album to you for free, so go grab the album and show him some love.
Alas! There has been much anticipation for this episode since our maiden voyage of Beats of All-Nations Radio: Episode 001 featuring Cell Uno. Thanks to everyone who showed us some love…This one took a little time to organize and arrange but we do have something real special for you.
Episode 002 features the brilliant production from the Inland Empire’s very own Bombay. This guys isn’t your average producer, Bombay has been building heavy steam over the years. His production credits include Aloe Blacc, Blu, Alchemist, The KO Corporation, and Home Grown Organix. 2013 was a busy year for Bombay, he managed to tour with Blu, and Tiron & Ayomari, DJ’ed for Elzhi at Paid Dues, and released his critically acclaimed Last 3 Days album, and 2014 looks even more promising. It’s no wonder he’s been referred over and over as the ‘IE’s best kept secret,’ from those in the know.
In this episode Bombay’s beats, mostly unreleased instrumentals and exclusives, are mixed by Beats of All-Nations very own Porchlite. Who is no stranger to the game either, Porchlite is one of our in-house producer/DJs dabbling in a range of sounds from electronic, house to downtempo and hip hop. In the past he has toured the nation with the likes of The Roots, NERD, Talib Kweli, Mayer Hawthorne and Skillz. His production and performance schedule is a busy one in 2014 so we’re sure you’ll be seeing and hearing him all over the place.
Bombay and Porchlite’s collaboration on this mix is something special as the two are well acquainted with each others styles and you probably won’t hear their music as well represented as in this mix. Without further ado here is Beats of All-Nations Radio Episode 002 featuring Bombay & Porchlite. Enjoy!
Of course we sat down with the two to discuss influences, the mix, and favorite food spots. Interview and exclusive 3-track download from Bombay after the jump.
I’m Beats of All-Nation’s newest contributor, Porchlite (aka Mike B). It’s an honor to partner with Mike Styles on his endeavor to share great music with the world and am lucky that he’s provided me with an outlet to write about the music that I come across.
My writing chops are decent at best but I have a degree in digging and a Ph.D. in vibrology. I also DJ and produce music ranging from downtempo, gritty beats, funk, to house music (my SoundCloud link is below). I dig it all!
You’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more from me and I encourage you to send us comments and feedback, it’s the only way we’ll all get open and free up!
