We’re celebrating 17 years of A Mic and Dimlights with a takeover by Bess Kepp, the host & JB, the DJ! A Mic & Dimlights is the longest running event in Downtown Pomona celebrating free speech with an open mic every Thursday. AMDL is now a monthly and the two Nor-Cal boys, turned IE OGs are mentoring the next gen to keep this community outlet moving forward. He opens the show with a dj set, the crew talks about memories at Dim Lights, the early days, its many venues and what’s to come. Gabe Real, also having worked within the community over the same timespan contributes to the conversation and delivers a closing mix.

Just in time for the very hyped solar eclipse we welcome back our French cousin, 7even Sun to the show for the very first time. No stranger to Beats of All-Nations, check his 2015 full-length release, ESCAPOLOGIES, at beatofallnations.bandcamp.com. We also welcome back our very own Porchlite, who has just returned from a national tour with Jurassic 5 and some pretty epic live shows with Epic Rap Battles of History. He opens up the show and JB closes us out with a brand new mix. Gabe Real and Mike Styles join in on the conversation. Recorded live in Downtown Pomona at Gabe Real’s Music. Culture. Freedom. Studio.
Following the recent release of “Going Back to Cali: Cut Chemist’s Colombian Crates Remixed,” curated by A Stable Sound & Beats of All-Nations, Cut Chemist invited the West Coast contributors of the project in to the studio showcase their various styles of production, performance and to talk about the process of digging through his crates and giving ’em a new sound. Co. Fee, Yukicito, Sumohair and DJ Gabe Real join Cut Chemist & Mike Styles on episode 21. Happy Bday Mike Styles!

We are super excited to relaunch the the radio show with a live broadcast jam from Music. Culture. Freedom Studio featuring the Re:Fresh Pomona crew! Mike Styles, Subira, JB and Gabe Real take to the tables and talk about what they’ve been up to and what to expect in the near future. Join us this Saturday July 8th as we celebrate 9 years of Re:Fresh Pomona at dba256, 256 S. Main St. Pomona.
Upon return from a recent trip to the deepest of crates in Colombia, Cut Chemist and Beats of All-Nations sought out to remix a unique set of dusty records, each different from the last, with an equally diverse list of producers. Going Back to Cali: Cut Chemist’s Colombian Crates Remixed is MORE THAN CUMBIA, its a reflection on a tropical culture rich in spirit, creativity and passion strung together with field recordings found along the way. These records were bought in Cali, Colombia during Patronio Alvarez Festival last year, hence the name.
Our trip begins with folklore Colombiano favorites Los Corraleros de Majagual over a crunchy boom-bap by Co. Fee from Los Angeles’ beat collective, My Hollow Drum. Dance Kill Move (Stockholm, Sweden) adds some serious low end to Los Jovenes de Hierro’s classic charanga, “Ritmo Sabroso.” Ubiquity recording artist, currently residing in Colobmia, Bosq and Yukicito of La Junta (Los Angeles) contribute absolute party starters, while El Dusty’s “Mi Chola” give Los Teen Agers a taste Corpus Christi, TX. Atropolis (Queens) pays homage with a heavy stripped down edit of Julio y su Combo’s “Lamento Cumbiambero” and Los Chicos Altos (Barcelona) add in some rub-a-dub flavor on Los Hermanos Tuiran’s “Lluvia.” In addition we explore national treasures and the lesser known, new styles of chirimía, porro, pachanga, salsa and cumbia as interpreted by Sumohair (Los Angeles), Gabe Real (Pomona, CA) and Greece duo SUPERSAN (aka Panama Cardoon & Mister Kentro).
