In honor of his passing, Edan and I play our favorite rap records that sample Clyde Stubblefield’s classic beat that changed hip hop forever.

A Special Bob James birthday celebration that features some of my favorite uses of the classic song, “Nautilus”. See how the art of sampling has evolved through the use of one song. Enjoy! -Cut Chemist
From Hip Hop DX:
In celebration of jazz musician Bob James’ December 25th birthday, Cut Chemist of Jurassic 5 cooked up a special exclusive episode of A Stable Sound podcast. With tracks like “Beats To The Rhyme” by Run-DMC and “Daytona 500” by Ghostface Killah, the mix spans Hip Hop songs from 1981-2016, and all sample James’ 1974 single, “Nautilus.” Normally powered by Dublab, episodes of A Stable Sound podcast run the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. Listen above.

The end of our residency at Dba256 Bar & Gallery is upon us, our decision wasn’t an easy one and it’s certainly not goodbye forever. Individually our plates are full with great projects and events on the horizon, collectively we will return to dba256 for some very special events in 2017. We are thankful to have served #Pomona, bi-weekly since July, 2008. We’ve met a lot of great people and shared some fantastic memories. We would love to see everyone in the house, OUR HOME, one more time this year on Saturday November 12th. Thanks to everyone who has helped Re:Fresh become the most culturally unique party in Pomona, possibly ever!

– About Re:Fresh [POMONA] –
Established in 2008, Re:Fresh is a great collaboration of DJs, who for over the last decade established themselves through the arts & music community on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The Founding Fathers of events like More Fire Mondays, A Mic and Dimlights and the Lapa Lounge come together for the most sought out party in Pomona, playing the best in Soul, Hip Hop & World Rhythms!
Episode 3 offers Halloween related soul, funk, rock and hip hop from Cut Chemist aka Al Bundy, Mike Styles, Hymnal and Marvski as well as a phone call with Bushwick Bill and the usual never heard before exclusives from the A Stable Sound vaults.
A Stable Sound airs live every 1st, 3rd (and sometimes 5th) Saturdays from 6-8 PM (PST) on www.dublab.com
Cut Chemist begins the second EP with a dedication to his fans at the previous week’s Tipper and Friends show in Denver by playing a section of his ‘head nod psychedelic’ set. Mike Styles follows up last week’s Brazilian selections with classic funk and hip hop. We then explore the connection between dance music legends Egyptian Lover and Arthur Baker as well as Cut’s first encounter with hip hop through a live concert he recorded in 1983. L’Trimm is reunited on the air to help bring the party up a notch along with DJ IQ on the cut. Put this all together with a Bob Dylan shout out for good measure and you have the second Episode of ASS…
