NEW RELEASE: 7even Sun – Escapologies [BOAN 002]

Words by:  Mike Styles & 7even SunESCAPOLOGIES ART FRONT

Somewhere between Toulouse and Aix-en-Provence in the South of France7even Sun is digging for audible gold, constructing beats and networking with the rest of the globe!

Following a pair of self-released instrumental albums, 7even Sun brings you his newly finished work for Beats of All-Nations, Escapologies. A twelve track sonic journey into the French Connection with laid back beats that ease the mind and take you to that stress free space that escapes us daily. This project is our second installation of partnering with musicians and artists from around the globe.

Escapologies is about evasion, escape, liberation…’escapology’ is the art of escaping. Like the Great Houdini, you know? This concept was inspired by what i was going through in my life at the time i made it.” 7even Sun began working on this album around 2013 immediately after finding out he would have to relocate without a promised space to create. “At that time, I was feeling kind of trapped, locked down at home most of the time, making music or handling the releases of my projects. I was inspired by this need of evasion and action, I then translated my life into the music.”

It’s a bit complicated to explain the creative process of any human being, I can’t begin to imagine the depths of any artists’.  Escapologies, simply put, is influenced by life experiences, emotions, memories and moods and sounds. 7even Sun also credits influence from his digs through soul, funk, jazz, latin and golden era hip hop and r&b. He’s also inspired by creation itself; experimenting with sounds often begins a new song. 7even Sun believes in the message behind Beats of All-Nations and we’re excited to have him aboard and to present you his latest– Escapologies!

Beats of All-Nations: World Cup 2014 Soundtrack

Words by:  Mike Styles

Its no news that our journey began in Brazil with record hunting trips, for weeks at a time over a span of 3 years.  The journey is long, documented with audio and video, and most of it has been unreleased.  That is neither here nor there.  Our work is never done.  But today isn’t about us, the world looks on as Brazil, the country that holds the most titles, host the 2014 World Cup.  Though we are torn as the Brazilian’s protest their beloved sport over the billions invested to host FIFA for the month.  We want to reflect what has drawn us to Brazil in the first place, from the culture to the music, this is Beats of All-Nations:  World Cup 2014 Soundtrack.  Stay tuned as we will update this post everyday of the Cup with some of our favorite music from our the largest country in South America, Brazil!

GAME DAY 25//THE WORLD CUP:  Silvio Cesar – A Festa

Its no news, though we were pulling for Argentina in today’s big game, Messi the magician just didn’t turn on the magic.  It was a great game and Germany really deserved to triumph in this tourney for their excellence in their performance against Brazil alone!  Today’s pick is the final choice for our World Cup 2014 Soundtrack.  I really hope you enjoyed the picks, as each game day I randomly selected songs that came to mind, you can see and hear them all below.  Today’s pick is Silvio Cesar‘s “A Festa,” which simply translates into “A Party.” Germany is certainly having a party now!

Finally, I wanted to share some of my mixes to get you all through a lot more selections from my Brazilian collection, in a more condensed and creative listening experience that I think you will dig! Download Away…

Cut Chemist presents Funk Off [Stream Album x LA Release Party]

Words By:  Mike Styles

We’ve been bumpin’ Cut Chemist‘s latest release Funk Off:  Vox Populi and Pacific 231 steady since its release a few months back.  This is Cut’s first in a series of releases based on the French minimal and experimental sounds of Vox Populi and Pacific 231.  It started with Cut sourcing music for “The Storm featuring Edan and Mr. Lif”  a single recorded for his 2006 debut album, The Audience’s Listening.  After seeking out and sampling more music from the scene for his next project, Cut found himself with enough material to put out his first reissue compilation, officially on his own label A Stable Sound, to be followed by remixes and more.  Vox and Pacific 231 releases are no easy find, and mostly on cassette and vinyl until now!

Los Angeles:  This Saturday May 10th, Cut Chemist Presents Funk Off Live!  A one of a kind show that may never happen again.  Cut will play the music of Vox Populi, Pacific 231 and more from the French underground, exclusive remixes and originals in a unique vinyl and cassette set with visuals by Tom Fitzgerald at Cinefamily.

New Video/Single: Cut Chemist “Work My Mind” feat. Chali 2na & Hymnal

Just in time for Halloween/Dia de los Muertos, Cut Chemist drops a new single inspired by his latest release.  “Work My Mind” features Chali 2na & Hymnal, directed by Delaney Bishop.  Bishop directed Jurassic 5‘s “Concrete Schoolyard” video in 1998.  The concept was derived from a short video he directed for Cut Chemist’s “Rare Equations” mixtape snippet ith Chali 2na also released in ’98

Enjoy this Day of the Dead festive work as they add Hymnal (“What’s the Altitutde”) to the concept while the adventure takes him through a graveyard.

“Work My Mind” is the first single from the Cut Chemist’s new EP.  The song samples “Alternative Fresh” by Vox Populi! featured on Cut Chemist Presents FUNK OFF: Vox Populi! and Pacific231.

“It’s a slightly new territory for me as it suggests the Golden Hip House Era of the late 80’s.” Cut adds, “A dance track for sure and Chali kills it being exposed to the Chicago House scene back in the day. He seen where I was headed, and nailed it!”

The EP will feature more collaborations with Edan, Mr. Lif, DNTL, Mumbles (Aceyalone’s “Book of Human Language” producer) and Gone Beyond.
