Artist Spotlight: Low Leaf

Out of the chaos that is Los Angeles vibrates a light frequency named Angelica Lopez, better

known as Low Leaf . She’s a singer, song-writer, multi instrumentalist, producer, college

graduate and visitor to planet earth. To kill the long-windedness lets just call a star, a star. With

four albums under her wings and multiple European tours behind her already, its safe to say she

has found her formula. When I say multi-instrumentalist, I mean just that. She’s a classically

trained pianist, a harp and guitar player, with a knack for beats, and an ear for mixing. In my

opinion what she provides is a refreshing energy to a world of haphazard mechanical failures

and hard to breath air. Her music sounds as if she brought it with her from a distant utopia, it’s

beautiful, organic, electronic, acoustic and completely who she is.

On a song titled Paradise II she sings that there is a paradise in your soul, and about finding peace in the pieces

she has left on the ground. To say the least she’s complex, rich, in-tune, and overall, exactly what the

world needs more of.

I had the opportunity to ask Low Leaf a few questions and here’s what

BOAN: Peace Low Leaf! I love the music as much as I’d imagine you do creating it. Where is

your current wave of inspiration coming from? Some people are inspired by the material world, I

don’t really see this being the case for you.

LL: For me, inspiration is an all encompassing wave of the human experience itself, moving

through this material world is interwoven with the spirit world, although some may not realize it. I

get very inspired by feeling the unifying nature in life’s dualities through the presence of God in

all reality…

BOAN: You recently had a chance to work with one of my favorite composers Miguel Atwood-
Ferguson, how did that come about, and when can we hear the magic?

LL: Oh, yeah, he was there for a session for Mark de Clive-Lowe’s next Church album coming

out in the near future. I played harp on a track with them. I grew a whole lot.

BOAN: King Britt is a huge Low Leaf fan. Has he reached out to work? Please tell me that

somewhere in the future we are going to hear a collaboration between you two. Sooooooo will

LL: Hah, yeah, Fresh Selects dropped a standalone single which was an outtake from his

upcoming album. I laid down harp and vocals over this beat he sent me back in 2012. Perhaps

you’ve heard it by now… ;p

BOAN: Being a harpist, has Dorothy Ashby or Alice Coltrane been an influence on you? If not

who has inspired you?

LL: Of course, both of them very deeply. It’s difficult to sum up how much both of their spirits

constantly remind me why we are here, doing what we are doing. The harp is such a powerful

instrument, that vibrates throughout the earth into the heavenly spheres if played in tune with

the cosmos. I strive to evolve and grow into my full form as they had, and share my

interpretation of this song.

BOAN: What shows and releases are lined up for 2014?

LL: Dropping AkashAALAY through Fresh Selects on April 29th. Dub Temple Records is

organizing my first Australian/New Zealand Tour in late May / early June. Most likely gonna

drop a project with them as well in the future. In September I’m returning to Europe thanks to

the Zoobook Agency. Planning for Zeroh to come along and play some shows with me during

my upcoming tours too. Also, at the end of 2014, I will be returning to the Philippines to play

more shows and possibly move there for at least a season.

BOAN: You were born in Hollywood, but where was your soul prior to that?

LL: The ether

BOAN: How has the theory of the Akashic Record played into where you are today, if you

believe it has?

LL: I agreed to return to earth to serve the lord’s purpose. I’ve lived many lives before this i’m

certain, and I feel it very much so as I uncover more and more of my roots in the Filipino islands.

it’s all been written, as we are also now writing it each day. Co-creating with the spirits and each

other in the flesh. cleansing. Healing. Re-awakening. I am grateful to be alive in this form, and in

this point in time of the human existence on planet earth so that I may nourish my deep seeded

destiny. All praises return to the most high, who holds the key to the akashic vault, and knows

all. best we all awaken to the path…Bless up!
