UPDATED: Africa Madness

5

Mixtape kingpin/producer J. Period gets behind Nigerian born, German resident Nneka on an introductory showcase mixtape preceeding her first U.S. release Concrete Jungle.  Here on The Madness (Onye-Ala), listeners are welcomed into Nneka’s vocally versatile world over equally versatile beats.  Nneka sings, rhymes, and speaks her experiences growing up in Nigeria, spirituality,  human uprising, and commentary on the social issues of the world as a whole.  Personally it is always refreshing to hear up and coming artists from around the globe, bringing diversity to westernized music, including but not limited to hip hop.  From popular hip hop re-edits, cult classic trip hop intermissions and original beats, J. Period sets up a very strong foundation in production for Nneka to shine on.  Vocal support comes from M1 (Dead Prez), Rakka (Dilated Peoples), J. Electronica and a host of mash-ups with heavyweights like Fela Kuti, Outkast, Lauryn Hill and Talib Kweli.  I forcast a lot of good production and collaborations coming down Nneka’s way in the near future.   Download Here.
